Went to visit my child attending university and was astounded to see that they his roommates had a flat screen TV, video game systems, stacks of DVDs, a foosball table, and many varieties of alcohol lining the kitchen cabinets. They all had laptops and nice computers and fancy cell phones. When I was in university, I had a desk and a bed. We watched TV at the student lounge and there was only 2 tvs for all of us and we defintely didn't have cable. Luckily, my roommate had a typewriter so I could type my reports up neat. I can't image having half the stuff that kids have now. How do you even study?

Undergrads, not as much. Grad students have less money and can't rely on their parents any more for money. And international students never could - plus it costs them two months salary to go home.

Where is your kid going to University? I went to a top school and never saw anyone with flat screen tvs and all this luxury. I'd imagine many of the ones that had them brought them from home. Cell phones are dime a dozen.

in the dorms at most off campus apts cable and internet are often provided in the rent. i went to purdue and there was a lot of competition for students, so apt complexes would give free internet and cable...one put a new 36in tv in all the apts, and they usually have a nice clubhouse with a pool, fitness room, lounge with a pool table, etc. and of course, everyone has tons of alcohol.

Oh, it's like that at my school, unless you look in one of the ghetto dorms without air conditioning. They just built some new suite-style dorms, and you should see all the expensive cars parked around it. They also put full size beds in these suites too, and each student gets their own bedroom and private bathroom.

We study using the internet, haha.

Even if one takes "starving student" literally... there are none (or few) because most schools make their students by meal plans.
