I need to know if her ex can halt procedures. My family thinks he can.I don't know.Is it in the hands of the court system only? By the way she is in jail now.

Contempt is hard to overcome, as the crime is not against her ex, but against the court.

In any case, he must speak to the court to see what can be done

She is in contempt of curt which means exactly that. She was court ordered to pay support and for whatever reason didnt so she basically refued to obey the Judges order s now she must answer to him and her ex cannot get her out of this one nor can he even help her out in any way. If she stays in jail til the court date the Judge may let her off with time served but will still have to answer for why shes not paying and what to do aboutwhat she owes in arrearages

She owes back child support why would her ex WANT to halt procedures? She is in jail because she didn't follow court orders that's HER problem not her ex's.

nope - she's stuck. Contempt of court means she did something agaist the court, not her ex...it is the court that put her in jail.

The only way her ex could POSSIBLY help her is to go to court and petition for the child support to be stopped and any arrerages to be forgiven...but he'd have to have one hell of a reason why other than to get her out of jail..the court expect parents to pay for their kids.

It depends on if she owns the state for any assistance receive on behalf of the child/children. If she owes anything to the state it can not be stopped. And if she is too far behind on payments they probably will not stop it either. He may be able to speak up and help her get a lighter sentence.

He shouldn't even try. What is it with people that want a free ride in this world and expect others to bail them out?
