I have tried several websites, but haven't found one that has the products I'm interested in. I want to find the value of a few collectibles from the 1970's and 1980's.

Your best bet is to go on Ebay and research what the items actually sell for. Price guides are notorious for over pricing the items. A lot of price guides are produced using data from what sellers want to sell the items for and not what the market actually will pay for them. Another flaw is that price guides usually use data from dealers and the prices do not reflect what the dealers are willing to pay for the item.

One example is the Avon Chess Set. I have one and my parents have two of them along with some extra pieces. We had a friend who tried to tell us they were worth a lot of money. However, on Ebay they were priced extremely cheaply and still were not selling.

that also seems to be my problem; these very few items have been around for years ad nobody knows anything much about them.
