I own a domain name....but it's hosted by someone different.. I was running a website with another girl and she changed all the hosting stuff to her name and basically kicked me out of the site...she says I have no say and I no longer co-own the site. so what rights do I have because I OWN the domain?

If you own the domain name, then you don't need the other girl, you can go and getcher own host somewhere's else! Do so! (You can find'em free) All you have to do is change the "dns pointers" of your already-paid-for domain name to point to whatever host you fetch. The host is just the name of the computer where your files are stored. Store your files there, use the "dns pointers" to point your domain name to that host, and you're all set. (There's tutorials on www.webhostingtalk.com...there's also lots of highly technical stuff, so be prepared to drudge through...)

If you own the domain, then point the domain to another host account. You are in 100% legal right to take the domain name where ever you want if you are indeed the registered owner. Her hosting will not be affected, it is just that the domain will no longer point to her site.

Of course, you could first offer to sell the domain to her and if she turns down the offer, she will need to register another domain.

If you own the domain name then just point that domain name to some other Nameservers from the domain control panel. Your co-partner will know that she should not mess around anymore with you.

You can just park it on some parking service provider and even earn money from it.

One more advice if you own the domain name and if your friend did this to you. Then just get the domain name and make your own website on it. Even if it is not so cool as the previous one. But make your own website.

Do you share the domain name too? If you do, change it, and she wont know it until you tell her what it is(here you can only give it to her when she gives your share back). Get another site, and put it under your existing domain. Forget about her. Then give her bad publicity too.
