I felt compelled to defend Colorado based on the completely inaccurate answer list above above!

1. That's a totally inaccurate representation of ethnic makeup of Colorado (as if something's wrong with a majority Hispanic!) There are more Hispanics here than other places I've lived and that's to Colorado's benefit.
2. Denver is the cleanest city I've ever lived in.
3. Just like every city in America, some schools have a dropout problem, but overall, public schools are great here. Unlike Boston, we put our children in public schools by choice. The Cherry Creek school district is considered one of the best in the nation.
4. The weather is incredible here! Winters are warm and sunny, summers are hot, but dry. We don't have nearly as many bugs and mosquitoes as a result.
5. It is wide open and beautiful! I miss the ocean, but the mountain scenery is fantastic!
6. Denver is the biggest city in the Mountain time zone. It's a very small city in comparison to NY or other coastal cities, but that can be an advantage. Traffic is SO much better. Real estate and rents are reasonable. We have a good economy with a highly educated workforce. The quality of life is excellent.
7. The Rocky Mountains don't compare whatsoever to hills in Pennsylvania. People move here just because of them! Skiing, hiking and just plain looking at them is what I love about living here.
8. Honey, if you're from NY, you know what homeless people are! Denver has a few but they're not agressive. I had a friend from NY here a few years ago who said that she was amazed that she could walk five blocks downtown and no one asked her for money!

I adore NYC, and Denver's not nirvana, but it's a great place to live. Denver's really different, and you can't really judge except for yourself whether it's better or worse. I've been here 16 years and won't go back. I can see it's not for everyone, but those who choose to live here love it!

WOW!!! I am moving to NYC next year from Denver, CO. I am going to name a lot of things wrong here:
1. The city is 70% Mexican, 20% Caucasian, 5% Chinese, 5% African Americans. And that's about it.
2. The neighbors are very rude and DIRTY. The children throw garbage everywhere.
3. The schools have a higher drop out rate and test scores than the worst schools in Brooklyn. Most of the kids do not know proper English and it affects everyone.
4. The weather is messed up. It can be 80 degrees in the day and at night drop to 45. It can get to well over 100 degrees during the summer. I have been sick for the past 3 years because the weather is messed up.
5. It is wide open!!!! I feel like I am in the middle of nowhere! Even the mail takes longer to get here because of all of the mountains and fields and little cities around it.
6. The closest biggest city is Las Vegas pretty much which is about a 12 hour drive. Cheyenne, WY has nothing there- I went to check it out too.
7. If you like mountains and are going to utilize your skiing and climbing abilities a lot, then move here. If not, the mountains are the only nice thing and they just stare at you. I would say the cities in PA with a lot of big hills almost compared to mountains are more cool.
8. This is the most homeless people that I have seen here!!! Even my husband (who is from NY) said he has never seen so many homeless people. They stand at almost every major intersection with a sign like "war veteran please help" or "just need a beer".
In conclusion, next year I will be speeding out of Denver and never looking back!!!

Denver is awesome. I use to travel there for work. Great city. Great night life. Great restaurants and shopping and hiking and skiing. Nice people too! Beautiful scenery just outside the city. Weather is usually awesome. I would live there if I could get my family to move there too. But hard to compare to NYC...its much smaller scale than NYC. Fort Collins is very nice too- but a smaller town feel.

I live in a suburb of Denver and I love the fact that it's easy to get to the mountains. I also love the fact that it's usually sunny. My experience has been that the place to find the friendliest people is on the hiking trails.

One downside is that it's very dry here. You have to water your lawn or it turns brown. Another downside is that gas prices here are currently higher than the national average. I'm paying about $3.33 a gallon, (regular), last I saw. Also, traffic is pretty bad during rush hour. I've never been to NYC other than passing through JFK a few times, a long time ago, so I can't compare.

It is very different. Wide open spaces vs. closed in. Outdoor life vs. cafes and plays. Both cities do have night life and cultural life. Ft. Collins is a big college town. People move and talk slower.

I would jump at the chance, and I love both NYC and Colorado. But NYC is a great place to visit . . . Col is a great place to live.
