The same thing that would happen if an asteroid hit any other part of the earth - a big crater and lots of dust and ash.

A catastrophe....
Remember the meteorite that hit the earth, millions of years ago, and made the dinosaurs dissapear?.....it had only 500 meters in diameter....and look what happened.
Now, its not a matter of where it hits, but what is the mass it brings with it....
Size of a mountain?...I hope not the mount Everest.... (we would ALL rest forever)....

not much,it would melt but freeze again in no time if there was no atmosphere
