Why am I paying child support. His mother doesn't care if he lays around the house all day. I found out a few hours ago he quit school a year ago. Has no job, or any prospects for work. Are there any laws or statutes for the state of Flori-duh that would exonerate me from this agonzing torture? I have only seen this kid a few times in his life, and the fact is, he isn't mine by blood. Because I signed the birth certificate, the law in Florida says, I am legally responsible. I'm thirty eight, and tired of this.
My upbringing taught me not to help someone that refuses to help themselves. If he were still in school, or had a part time job, I have no quarrels. This is pure sorry. Any suggestions??

My question is, WHY didnt' you bother getting a paternity test, seeing as you "know" it's not yours? That's your fault, and one that you will literally pay for............. SOMEONE is supporting him, whether your son is in school or not, whether he will turn out to be like his mom or not. She is still supporting him, which means, a roof over his head, food, clothing, etc. The fact that you dont like HOW she is raising him, is apparently none of your business, or you really dont care at all becasue you havent cared to make an impression on his life, so you just care about the money, so what's it matter if you are paying C/S or not.. she's still supporting him.. If it was just about the money, you should have thought about that when you signed the birth certificate, or have taken her back to court to get a paternity test.

dude your a jerk, If you signed the birth certificate that is your problem that you no longer see this child. well almost adult you only have a year to go. it would probably take longer to do the paperwork then to just pay the child support. you should have never signed the birth certificate if you werent the father. or didnt want to be. so now you have to pay for your actions. but on the other hand good for you for paying for a child that is not yours. some dads dont even pay for the kids that are theirs.

You are stuck when you sign on the dotted line buddy. I would be interested too see what he does when your support is no longer ,and if I were you i would be very happy that you only have one year to go and then watch him squirm when the money tree gets cut off. I too pay for a son that I do not have the abilities to see on a regular basis and it can be very frustrating at times and wonder what they are doing with the money I provide. Good Luck Take care!

It's the law. !8 comes right after 17 so you have less than a year to go. Suck it up!

absolutely!!! in north carolina, there are laws, stating that if the minor child quits or fails school, you can quit. you would have to talk to an attorney for sure, but you shouldnt have a problem dropping it

if you're support order states you pay until he is 18 than you have to pay by law.

18 is just around the corner - why get in a tizzy over it now? It's almost over - leave it be.
