Aw-va as in "are"?
or Ah-va as in "apple"?

it is subjective. like Ah-nah: Ana or Aw-nah: Ana

just pick they way you prefer.

I would pronounce it A-va (with the A being a long a sound).

I went to school with a girl with the name Ava and you pronounce it like A-VA. You know how you pronounce vesectomy? The first syllable is Va thats how you pronounce that name A-VA

I've never heard either of those pronunciations. I've only heard Ava like it rhymes with Flava (as in Flava Flav). Definitely the way I would do it.
