College games play on Saturday, except for the NFL playoffs and NFL TV bonus games. The NFL deliberately intends making NFL Sunday a regular thing for its fans.

Because, despite all their huge marketing savvy, the NFL is still afraid to mess with a tradition of Sunday football.
However, I believe for the Superbowl only, it makes sense to play it on Saturday night for many, many reasons. To name a few:
1. Superbowl tickets would be in even more demand if the game was played on Saturday. That would give the average fan a chance to get to the game city Friday night, visit the city attractions on Saturday, attend the game Saturday night, and fly out or travel out on Sunday.
2. Superbowl parties, including those at taverns, restaurants, etc., would be even more well attended and make more money. The majority of people wouldn't have to go to work the next morning so that means more partiers and more partying.
3. The game could be played in true prime time. Instead of an approximately 6:30 p.m. ET start, the game could start at 8 p.m. or even 9 p.m. ET. Is there any other thing on Satuday night any one will be watching if the Superbowl is on? That means even better ratings and more ad dollars for the NFL.
4. By playing during prime time on Saturday, the pertinent TV hype and hoopla (if there is such a thing--LOL) could start about 3 p.m. ET Saturday, meaning more TV viewers because the hype and hoopla comes during the ending hours of a weekend day. If the Superbowl on a Saturday night kicked off at 8:15 p.m. ET, that would be 7:15 CST, and 5:15 PST. I think there would be a lot more people watching than on a Sunday when it's 6:30 p.m. ET, 5:30 CST, and 3:30 PST.
5. There is no issue with college football. For the most part, College football doesn't play games during Superbowl weekend.
6. Moving the Superbowl to Saturday makes a statement that the Superbowl IS the crowning of the NFL season and matters so much, it will be played on Saturday.

According to TV Guide Saturday night is the time when the fewest people in America are watching Television, while Sunday night is the time that the most people are watching television. It's only good business sense to have their games on Sunday night instead of Saturday.

Tradition. Most major sporting events are on Sundays. How many times do you see the final round of the Masters on a Saturday? Sports belong on Sunday afternoons.

Football is traditionally played on sundays. That's how it has been for the past decades, so why break tradition. It's like celebrating Christmas on the 23rd of Dec. That wouldn't sound right.
