The black gooky stuff is the lining that is being shed by the uterus whenever your period comes and this is normal to have occur.

As for how to deal with the heaviness of the flow, one way is to increase the level of iron during that time by eating things like spinach, raisins, and peanut butter (if not allergic to peanuts of course). I found that this also helped to ease some of the cramping I would get with my period.

As for cleaning down there during your period that's good because it will help keep the smell of the blood of the period under control. I found that using Physoderm helped with this but you can use soap like Ivory too to help with that.

Because this is your third time having periods it is still trying to regulate itself so you may also see a change in consistency of your period flow from month to month, but taking in more iron I found is helpful with some of this.

Please also discuss your concerns with your mom as she has been there before and can give you some additional information.

If you don't want to wear a tampon, you can try the new always pads with wipes. They're perfect for freshening up during your period, after activity or anytime you just want to feel fresh. And, they're flushable for easy, no worry disposal. I hated being in school too when I first got it and I was 10. Anyway, whenever you can, just take a shower. That usually helps me. GOOD LUCK!!!

You have probably been brainwashed into thinking that this is dirty. Religous?

Try to think of the positive, you are a woman now and no longer a child. This also means responsibility. Track your flow for heaviness and length and if you think it is unusually heavy, talk with your doctor. Please don't consider using a Birth control pill that takes away your period. They can be pretty dangerous if your body reacts to them, and you won't know that until it is too late.

The best option, change frequently and/or use a tampon.

Use tampax pearl, u wont see anything but if is heavy use a liner.
If ur a teen and a virgin you should use the small ones they might be called something teen ...
Those are the ones I used when I was younger, I hate pads, I only use them (the thins ones) when on my last day or two when you have only "residue" coming out. But you have to be changing them like 2 or 3 times a day (in case).
;D
Good luck

It's part of life...it sucks, I know the whole dirty feeling, and the need to take a shower all the time.
Try using always pads that have a wipe with each pad. You'll feel a little cleaner. or carry baby wipes in your back pack. :) good luck

try carrying around baby wipes and every time you go to the bathroom just clean your self up really good and tampons are cleaner yes but they are not very safe to start out as.. you should wait a few years before you start wearing tampons.. but, if you do decide to wear tampons be sure to change them often because it can be dangerous other wise.. therefore its here now time to get used to it and become a woman.. good luck :)

won't mom help you out with this. I know mine didn't but since I have a daughter of my own I promised myself to help with this for her. There is a new pill on the market that takes your period away forever. But you can't smoke and have to take it every day. See your doctor. OB tampons are the best and no embarrassing leaks.
Good luck

this is normal and natural. until you get the hang of things you will be feeling disgusted with yourself, i know i did. when i got mine, i just used to sit in the toilets at school and wish i could just die!
so, just make sure that you keep yourself clean, change your pad often enough and you should be ok. if you have a close friend who uses tampons, maybe you could ask her to explain how they are inserted.
but don't worry, you are still new at this so you will used to it. unfortunately we are stuck with this for most of our lives.
