manny...u ask why would anyone leave this planet?, simple... we are freaking killing the planet!!!, in 300 or more years the drinking water sources are gonna be almost gone...ice is gonna melt and oceans wouls rise forcing people to move inland and crowding everything up, poeple eould go to war so they can exploit every single inch of the planet..and having wars..druglords...corrupt politicians...kid's going on a killing spree at schools..hunger...and the list goes on and on!!!
we are a destructive race..once we are done with this palnet we all going to move to others and do the same crap all over again...is up to people like you and "it can't be" to get smart about things.
shure u don't care right now...but if the worst scenerio happen at this time u would be begging to be shuttled out of here...and take "the profesor" with you.

I don't think there have been any laws created to determine ownership of land on other planets..though I'm sure someday they will have to come up with some.

Property laws vary from country to country also...so I guess it would depend on what country landed on the planet. As far as I know, no one has claimed any land on the moon or mars as their own..but again, as soon as a government learns how to exploit land anywhere, they are quick to develope laws that allow them to do so...

Soon my friend, soon...mwuhahahahah!

WHY IN THE WORLD DO YOU WANT TO GO TO MARS FOR? Or any other planet for that matter! There is nothing there for you or any other human. There is no air, no water, you will likely die of radiation exposure.

Guess you can claim the planet as yours for a few hours until you DIE!

Yeah, only big, multi-billion dollar coporations can afford them. Microsoft owns Mars, Sony owns Venus, Pepsi owns Jupiter, McDonalds owns Saturn-- No.
No you cannot own a planet, nobody owns them.

There are treaties for the moon. I do not know whether anything more extensive has been worked out. At this point, if one could get there and stay there, there would be no competition, and you would be, well, worshipped, like Lindburgh or Hughes or Armstrong.

yes, you could claim it as yours.

but, you wouldn't be allowed back on earth. So you would have to feed yourself and what about medical care?

you also would have to defend it from invaders. The police and army aren't going to save you. Anyone else could fly up their, kill you and claim the planet as theirs.
