Yes - set up a sercured network. It is called the WEP key and your software with the router will have the option to enable it. You set it up using a common phrase (think of it as a password) and anyone wanting to get on the nettwork will need that passphrase to get on.
Best bet is to go to the manufactureers website of your router and search the setup help files there.
If you have a wireless router from your ISP, then call them and have then talk you through enabling WEP on the router.
There are more elaborate steps you ca ntake to secure your wireless, but WEP is a good start and simple to enable.

WEP is crap and easily hacked. I could get your router to give me an IP address in less than 1 minute by entering a simple code.
Best security is to turn on 'access control' in wireless settings and put all of your wireless equipment's MAC address in your allow list. This means that only YOUR hardware can access your router.
This does work. Have tried it with a wireless adapter and a wireless gaming adapter. Won't connect unless the mac address is listed. Most mac addresses are printed on the equipment.
If you want anymore info drop me an email.

From the main computer (the one that has the wireless connection) go to that and open up the Wireless Network Connection.
It should then tell you who is all using that. If you find someone using it that isn't you, put a password on the Wireless Connector.

Check the manual that you got with your wireless base station. It should have instructions for how to put on access control. If you put that on, thus limit the hardware addresses of the computers and devices that can access your network, AND put a password protection on as well, it will be a lot less likely that anyone could access it. (Not impossible, just not worth it especially if there are open networks available where you live).
Unfortunately all routers and base stations have different settings on different locations, so I can't show a link for how to set it on with your hardware. But usually the manuals that come with the hardware show how to set up MAC access control and password protection.

check the logs on your wireless router and see if there are any connections made when you arn't using your wireless.
either way you should always secure your wireless.
for a minimum you should enable MAC address filtering.
every network device has a unique alpha numerical media access control address in the form xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx you can add the one for your wireless card to your wireless router and it will then deny access to any other card.
you can also hide the SSID, on your wireless router, this stops people easily searching for your connection as the router will not advertise its presence. see the manual for your particular router on how to do this.
you should also use security keys such as WEP, PSK, etc basically this is a long encrypted password you enter on your router and on your wireless adaptor to authorise connection.
no security is 100% secure, but to your average causal hacker, any of the above methods will stump them.

Encrypt the connection ASAP. Use 128 bit encryption if you cannot use 256, don't use 64 bit - too easy to crack. Use a password that is hard to guess. If you see the lights on your modem flashing and you are not using your system then it is being accessed - turn it off for a couple of minutes, then back on. If it keeps happening, leave the modem off while you are not ujsing it - whoever is helping themselves will have to find another connection to jump on.

Next time keep it to yourself coz it's costing you money for them to use your connection absoluteley Free. Some thing are free in life when you think about it change your connection details now act fast.
