I believe so, but not a blanket legality. It should be like alcohol, with many restrictions on its use. Still ban the selling of it unless you have a license, so it can only be bought at certain places with quality controls.

By ending the "war" on marijuana the government can decrease spending and tax the heck out of it to raise funds to stop other far more dangerous drugs like cocaine and heroin.

Also, I don't nor ever have used drugs. However I do believe that marijuana legalization would be for the best.

And on the above issue of stoned drivers. Pot is illegal now, but people still use it and do stupid stuff like get high and drive. How would legalizing it promote the practice of stoned driving??? Some controls, such as no pot while driving could still be enforced.

Absolutely! Mind you, I haven't smoked pot in over 15 years, but if it was legalized, the advantages would be awesome. Here is what I mean, in a nutshell. Marijuana is a natural, grown-in-the-wild plant. It is not manufactured and it is as natural, as a dandilion. Second, the government taxes beer and cigarettes. Let's say grass was legal, and subject to the same taxes. Now, get this. You walk into a carry-out, and purchace a pack of MJ smokes for a price. Uncle Sam has now applied his tax to it, and he ends up making out on each, and every sale. Like I said, liquor and cigarettes are taxed, and look at the income they bring in. Can you imagine what kind of money pot would make, if made legal. Well, there you have it. Sorry for being a bit long winded, but you did ask an old hippy a very, viable question. Hope the answer is what you were looking for. Peace!

Yes. Too many innocent people are in jail over this. The problem is the hard drugs like speed and cocaine, and that is the danger, not pot. Pot has been proven to help terminally ill patients, and it's medical uses for people like increasing appetite, relaxing, pain management, is a few of the reasons that it should be legal. Also, there would be a ton of revenue from selling this herb. The male plant , as we all know is used to make everything from rope to clothes. What a waste of our taxpayers money to keep this herb illegal. The money they spend using helicopters to find the plants is as stupid as it gets. That money should go toward schools and education, but not for a bunch of cops running around in camoflage, playing gorilla warfare. We have a war that is so out of hand, and why is that legal? OK, I get it, war and killing and violence is OK with everyone, but smoking a little pot is no good. I can not believe our country and how freaking stupid they are. I thought we fought for democracy and freedom, a long time ago, so what happened to our right to choose, what we want to do. Alaska has decriminalized pot, Ca. has loosened up the laws for pot, what is the matter, with the rest of the country.

all the reasons Harry Anslinger gave back in 1937 for making it a controlled substance have proven out to be false. The follow up of including all cannabis not just high THC bearing strains causes one to question his motivations.
In 1937 a machine was invented to process an acre of hemp as fast as an acre of cotton. Hemp can grow in any state of this union and is superior to cotton in many ways. Considering that 1937 was year 8 of the great depression and that the south was very dependent upon the cotton industry, hemp re-emerging on the marketplace could have devastated many areas of the south. Lets not forget Anslinger himself was heavily invested in timberland (hemp out produces trees by 4 to 1 per USDA bulletin 404 1916) as was his ally Hearst. The senators that supported the effort were both from the south. and another friend (those nice people at DuPont that made gun cotton and nylon) had an interest in not seeing hemp back in vogue. With that climate it would seem much more reasonable that hemp was made illegal for economic reasons not health.

OUR COUNTRY was BUILT WITH HEMP ! ' OLD IRONSIDES' one of our most treasured artifact of our fight for Independence, is made of ONLY THREE THINGS ....OAK,IRON and HEMP ! MARIJUANA is a relativity harmless drug ! If the SAME CRITICAL DEFINITION as needed to get put on Sched. 1 drug, was applied to NICOTINE,CIGARETTES would be a felony in most states ! Tobacco ,when used as intended is the ONLY product that will KILL YOU ! NOT ONE PERSON IN THE HISTORY OF MAN has ever died from 'over-dose' of cannabis ! The only purpose I can see for the 'WAR ON POT' is to disenfranchise a huge group of loyal AMERICANS !

I do not use marijuana, but I would have no problem with it being at least decriminalized. That way the government could regulate it and tax it, and maybe they would stop punishing us cigarette smokers with such heavy taxation. I don't believe that it is a gateway drug, and it is not harmful in the way so many drugs out there are.

Should we allow people to stop 100 ft. from a stop sign while they are uncontrollably laughing for no reason at all. Haven't we learned anything from drunk drivers.Do we no want drugged up driver on the road?

Are you people dense or on drugs or both. Can't you figure out that this would be a major problem.Marijuana will make you out to be a bum.Its not an antidepressant. Its a quick fix to get away from the world today. But guess what when you come back down there's the world and its not any better.Grow up and start living responsibly.

Yes. We are wasting time and money trying to enforce laws against marijuana. There are much more important things to worry about. Let's outlaw a weed.... what a joke!

Ah - the question that will not die!
And the answer - yes, of course it should be legal.
It is far less harmful or addictive than tobacco in any form AND we can grow it ourselves! That last part is why it will never be legalized....
