I'm looking for a job, but it's somthing I need to enjoy, so my option was the library.....how much does a librarian get paid and how old to you need to be before you apply? I'm almost 16, so I should be able to get a job soon...am I too young to work at the library? If so, is there any other work that can be done at the library? I would really appreciate it if someone gave me very relivant infomation.

To be a librarian, you'd usually have to have a degree, probably a master's degree, in library science. Librarians typically don't get paid a lot compared to other people with similar education and responsibilities.

At age 16, many jobs would be as a volunteer. If you got a paying job at a library, it would probably be minimum wage or close to that.

Stop at your local library and ask them if they have any positions available. And consider volunteering - libraries can always use volunteers.

You need a Masters of Library Science or a Masters of Informational Sciences to actually become an accredited Librarian. You'll want to look into schools providing ALA accredited degrees, as this ensures your degree will be useful all the way up to becoming a Library Director.

Fear not, however. At 16, you can get a job as a Library Page. A Library page will normally handle book shelving, some material processing, etc. It's good, ground floor experience if you're really interested in working in Libraries as a career.

There are other jobs you do NOT need a Masters in to do. Example: Head of Circulation (although it helps!), System Technician (running all the computers, servers, etc in the Library), or Clerk jobs (which you can probably get once you're over 18, and should pay slightly more than Page work).

What about at a book store?

Although you may get started out as a cashier.
