Maybe it's because they are telling you the truth.
I find that when someone shouts out, Oi Stupid! i turn round, when someone says don't look behind you, I do, when someone says there is a slippery surface, I always fall on it (by being over cautious) but whenever someone says 'mind, that's hot' I have to touch and find out for myself, and they are always right!
