A bridge connection is one where two, or more, computers are connected to a router and are allowed to communicate with each other. Rather than restricting the computers to interact with the Internet exclusively, the computers are allowed to talk to each other, i.e. for file sharing.

A bridge connects network segments together. Windows XP with multiple NICs is capable of doing this now.

Not to be confused with routing. A network bridge is to connect multiple LAN segments.
