Nowadays yes. It seems that young women feel that they have to have the perfect nose & large breasts to be found attractive anymore. TV & magazines are full of messages to be beautiful; how to dress, how to wear your hair & make-up. There's much more emphasis on the physical than there was when I was growing up. Its too bad.

I do think it is quite common to be insecure about looks and your personality. This world puts so much emphasis on beauty and youth and it's hard not to. I just try to look the best that I can and I am who I am so at this point in my life, you either accept me or don't with my personality. I try to be thoughtful of others and understanding. What others think about me is their business.

Insecurity is an "obligatory" trait, in the youth years, and the worries about looks and how the rest of he group perceive you (how talented and famous etc), is a very strong issue in the teen years and perhaps until you reach the age 21 (in men)...in women, this period extends sometimes a bit too long, (till well entered the forties)...in that time we try to follow the "leaders" sometimes imitating them, however, most of them end up dissaponting us...On a later stage (College), we tend to adopt attitudes and manerisms of teachers, especially the ones we do admire most....All those phenomena are only natural, and are part of adopting our own personality to the circumstances, and the future.......Nothing to be ashamed of...
Even great personalities, passed through that insecurity period, and molded their personalities among fear of chryticism, shyness etc..
Those who look a bit "too sure of themselves" are just hiding that fear.....(please, dont follow that example....the only person you have to be secure of, is with yourself...remember that)

I would be willing to bet that there isn't a healthy person alive who doesn't think about their looks! The people who say they don't care what others think are only lying to themselves because let's face it we all want to be better then average somehow! Hell that's why we buy new cloths or go to the beauty salon or go to the gym! Even the models and beauty pageant winners have issues with self esteem it is human and dare I say animal nature to look good! That is why the strongest lion gets the pride! LOL ( I just had to say it!)

It isn't uncommon - but I think many people grow into ourselves.

(Ick, someone suggested Dianetics - it is a CULT btw.)

Yeah sometimes. But you can handle it by erasing your reactive mind and then you are more well and happy.
