Sounds like democracy to me- people's choice. But is this true? Can a president elected by such a majority truly represent an entire nations interest?

Here's a rational answer to your question. 70% voted for him because of his populist, us against the capitalist campaign, which is sweeping the region. I mean look at the left leaning leaders in Latin American, Lula, Nestor Kirchner and Evo Morales. Besides, his last election was cleared of any malfeasance by international monitoring groups. Oh, and Amerika supporting a elitist coup against him didn't hurt

No democratically elected official can possibly represent an entire nations interest! just look at the United States.

Maybe it's because if you didn't vote for Chavez you were shot or throw into prison. Yep real democracy they got going on down in Venezuela.

Well, heck, Sadaam in his last election, before his untimely death, was voted in by what 98.9% of the vote. Castro normally gets re-elected by about 99%. In the coming years, Chavez's re-election numbers will probably start approaching these numbers----but it won't be because he is so well liked.

Abuses by the upper class. Can't blame the populace! Their choice was all they had.
Now that they have him, do you think they will EVER get a chance to get rid of him as he becomes more and more tyrannical?
Doesn't sound like they have democracy any more!

Because the voting booths were rigged (or does that only happen in the States...)
