Because they were promised something in return. Say, you are a tribal chief. The British (or the French) are making your life miserable and try to kick your tribe off its lands. Then a French (or British) emissary shows up and says, "we'll help you kick the British (or the French) out, and your lands will remain yours forever; as to us, we will settle on your neighbors' lands". Can you see the attraction? You get rid of both the invaders and nasty neighbors...

Britain had promised the Natives that no colony would be allowed west of the blue ridge, they appreciated this fact and usually sided with the British. It was a major factor in the US Revolutionary War, and a principle reason the Indians sided with the British.

they didn't want the American settlers to stay in America..France was on America's side, but Britain was not
