I have a 04 plate BMW 318iSE. I'm looking to upgrade my basic radio/tape player with one that has a USB port so I can plug my Sony MP3 player into it. Do BMW make one? If I was to buy a non-BMW stereo is there any way that the volume controls on the steering wheel could work?

Looks like you are from the UK (since there're no 318i in the US for 2004).

Here's a UK site for you which seems to include a steering wheel adaptor in their kits for select aftermarket car radios.

There are currently no BMW radios that come with USB ports. You will need to look for an aftermarket unit.

The alternative is to get an iPod, and a BMW iPod adaptor which BMW makes. It might prove to be cheaper than changing out your whole setup just to accomodate your Sony mp3 player. With the iPod controls, you not only can control the volume on your steering wheel, you can also change tracks, and have some limited info displayed on the BMW radio.
