There's actually a lot of action in Georgia, but mostly near Atlanta and Savannah. There are several agents out there too. I would take some classes and workshops to get started and when you're comfortable with that get some headshots and checkout actorsaccess.com and backstage.com for auditions.

At that point you should also look into getting an agent. Go to Sag.org. Use the dropdown menu on the right labeled 'resources' and choose 'agent information'. On the next screen, on the left choose 'Find a SAG franchised agent' and follow the directions. You'll find several in GA.

Then you can send them your headshot, resume (if you have one), and a cover letter stating that you are seeking representation and wait to see if they call you in for an interview.

If things pick up and you want to get more serious, you will have to make the move to Hollywood

Good luck!

As a actor currently located in Atlanta, I suggest that you move to a larger market (ie: Los Angeles) if you want to be a serious player in screen acting. Even in Waycross, you need to be closer to Atlanta for anything.

As someone else stated, there is a very good theatre community in Atlanta. You will meet lots of people and make some good contacts. The theatre is a good place to develop your talent and skills while you are trying to break into screen acting.

It just simply isn't practical to not make the move to LA if you are serious. You have to go to where the studios are.

Yes you might have to move were the action is, think like LA, New York or Toronto.

As always there are far more actors than roles. Buy a camera and make your own film. One advantage is you control the content.

With all the new film festivals, cable channels, and web sites everyone is hungry for content. There is real respect and interest in actors who are also producer/directors.

When it comes to being an actor don't wait for opportunity to knock on your door, you have to find out where opportunity lives and knock on its door.

Go and get some training, and maybe do some theatre work. Yes, it's not onscreen, but there is a pretty good theatre community in Atlanta so I'm sure you could find people who could get you started. You will need acting classes before you can do much else. Classes and acting jobs in that area will put you in touch with people who know people-- getting into the business is all about who you know and then who they know. Make the connections and the career will follow that.
