How come when Lupin checked the map and saw Harry Ron and Hermione going to Hagrids, he didn't see 2 Harrys and Hermiones? Cause they were in two places right? Does the map not show you if you go back in time?

It's possible that the map has only one label per person, and the duplicated Harry and Hermione weren't seen. It's also possible that Lupin was looking for Peter Pettigrew and the first "Harry" and "Hermione" labeled dots he found were the ones near Peter, and so he didn't study the map further.

One might also ask why Fred and George, in the many years of owning the map, hadn't seen Peter Pettigrew hanging around Harry, Ron and Hermione all the time, since Ron had Scabbers with him.

That's a very very good point, it could be that there is only one label per person. However it also could be that Remus was smart enough (or was just told by Albus about what was going on) to not worry about it.

As a teacher he did know about Hermione having the time turner so it's pobbible he could have put 2 and 2 together, by the time he would have seen Harry, Hermion, Ron, Peter and Sirius going in to the tree with Harry and Hermion on the side as well he already knew at Sirius was innocent so he might have realized that Hermione and Harry were just using the time turner.

Or the other idea would be that he was to worried about the group going into the tree to really take time to look over the rest of the map, as J.K. said about why the twins never saw Peter was because there are so many people on the map that they wouldn't have noticed one extra person however they were kind of out in the open so I don't think the last idea is such a good one.

This is a good question to ask J.K. to answer on her poll on the main site.

Kudos for realizing that, I think you're the first person who's ever noticed that little odd thing there.

Added later:

Something I thought of on my way home from work (yeah I thought on the question to much) another idea I had was that maybe because the map is made for trouble makers it 'thought' that the two were up to something because they were in two places at once so it helped who it thought were trouble makers by not showing them, however it is said that the map never lies so I don't think that's something that would really work.

Shouldnt the twins have noticed if Pettigrew was running aroung with the trio? They would have seen Peter when he was sleeping, he'd be in the dorm wouldnt he? I dunno.

But yeah, thats a good question. Maybee the map dosent show if you go back in time cause that would mess everything up? I dunno

I always wondered why one of them didn't freeze Pettigrew before he had the chance to run
