NBC News announced today that they're dropping Stone Phillips from "Dateline NBC" after 15 years as the show's anchor. In a cost cutting move by NBC, they will be concentrating on other stories reported by other correspondonts. Phillips' contract with NBC expires at the end of June & has no further comment. Your thoughts on this?

Having been a middle-management victim of cost cutting and downsizings at USA TODAY, I can empathize with Phillips. However, I'm sure NBC was a lot more considerate of Phillips. He'll land on his feet, perhaps on another network. It'd be great to have him replace the likes of "Baba Wawa" on ABC; her mush-mouth manner of speaking and inane subject matter bores me to tears. I don't care about the latest celebrity's life crisis. I'd like to see more 'meaty' reports about government corruption, political scandals, and bureaucratic waste of taxpayers' money. -RKO- 05/22/07

Seignethaler, Phillips, my thought is l wonder who's next. Cost cuts, yet the pay millions a year for just one salary. I guess loyalty and longevity don't mean anything.

I think it's about time. NBC is losing money and needs to start cutting costs. If he's been there that long he's bound to be making good money.

Care factor is at 0 on this one. The media in the last few years has disgusted me so much, both with its crazy right and crazy left stories. The news is no longer about news and current events - but rather sensationalism, what can they put up that will draw people in.

so he now joins the ranks of thousands of other americans who looses their job...but then he made how much more money then the average worker so hopefully he saved some...also why is it considered being fired,his contract was up and they chose not to resign,if was let go while still under contract then he would be fired

I think he'll be missed, but I have a feeling another major network or cable network will pick him up ASAP.
