The most remote inhabited location in the world is Tristan da Cunha, located about midway between Cape Town, South Africa and Buenos Aires.

Tristan da Cunha is the primary island of the Tristan da Cunha island group, consisting of six islands at approximately 37°15' South, 12°30' West. That's about 1,500 miles (2,400 kilometers) west of South Africa in the South Atlantic Ocean. The other five islands in the Tristan da Cunha group are uninhabited, save for a manned meteorological station on the southernmost island of Gough. In addition to Gough, located 230 miles SSE of Tristan da Cunha, the chain includes Inaccessible at 20 miles (32 km) WSW, Nightingale 12 miles (19 km) SE, and Middle and Stoltenhoff islands - both just off the coast of Nightingale. The total area for all six islands amounts to a mere 52 mi2 (135 km2). The Tristan da Cunha islands are administered as part of the United Kingdom's colony of Saint Helena.

The most remote location in the world, by far, is Papua New Guinea. This country has only had 5 people in the history of time, which is billions of years, leave this country ALIVE and live to tell about it. The environmental forces in this loaction are so strong, that few things live here, permenately. Some other remote locations could be the Plateau of TIbet in West China, some parts in the South American country of Ecuador, N. Korea (to the public), or the southern island of New Zealand.

I did work in Ecuador deep in the jungle and the head waters of the Amazon. We had a barge to cross the river and the river was runing pretty fast . We started across and the motor died and we started down the river we were calling on the radio but it didnt look like anyone was hearing us. We throad out our anchors and it didnt look like they were going to stop and it is about 4 pm . There is no food and very little water . The river is full of parina fish so u can not swim. It looked like we could be in trouble . Suddenly the anchor caught on some tree roots and look like they are holding. But we are still in real trouble. There was help coming that we didnt know about as there were trucks on the other side that saw us start down the river. WE are at the complete jump off place as there no more roads in the area ,it looked grim. If we cut the anchors it is 3000 miles to the mouth of the Amazon. It is 5;30 now and sun down is about 7 pm . and about that time a helicopter appeared above us and we were able to switch channels and talk direct to them . With their height they could talk direct to camp and got a launch launched with a mechanic on board. It seamed an eternity before the launch arrived bit it was about 45 min. WE got the motor fixt and had to cut off the anchors as we could not pull them out. It got dark about 7pm and the last 20 miles we did in the dark. and got back to camp about 8:30 and that is good dark.

It might be a small island in the south Atlantic ocean known as Tierra del Fuego. It is about 2000 miles from any other populated area. The only industry is fishing for giant prawns.

The most remote location in the world is not populated. Have no idea where it is, probably somewhere west of Australia, where the Pacific meets the Indian ocean.
