The best thing to do is don't take a nap at all. Stay up until around your normal bedtime and then go to bed, and you'll wake up the next morning (or afternoon) feeling a little tired, but not nearly as bad as it could have been. Trust me from experience.

It can take a couple days or less with planning. When I have flown back from Hong Kong or Thailand. I depart in the late afternoon or early evening. My arrival time is usually late afternoon or early evening in Los Angeles. The flight from Taipei is around 10.50 hours long. I will nap for a couple hours and the rest of the time I stayed awake watching the movies. So, don't watch the films on the way over if they are the same. That way I will have been up most of the time up until I land. Then by the time I should be ready to sleep around 10-11 pm I should be sleepy. The next day I usually work and get up at the usual time or sleep in if you can. Make sure you get your rest. That night might be tough going to sleep or not. Try to get in your regular sleeping rhythm.

I try to fly China Airlines, they have individual screens on their 747-400's. It's pretty convenient for this type of travel.

Good luck.
