my C:drive is full. I am using Windows XP. I want to add another drive to supplement my 1st drive. I understand the hardware part but not the software part of this procedure. Thank you.

When you run Fdisk, be sure to select the 2nd drive (you might even consider physically disconnecting your existing XP drive first and using a boot CD/floppy to avoid any possibility of erasing the wrong drive), delete any existing partitions on it. Then reconnect your primary drive, and restart- loading windows normally.
Then go into Control Panel, Administrative tools, Computer management, Disk Management to format your new drive- it should appear as unpartitioned space. When you format, don't use quick- do a full format.

in DOS:
1. create a primary partition
2. format the partition
3. reboot
**afterwhich you're all set to go with the new drive
in WINDOWS XP
1. Enter Computer Management (Control Panel/Admin Tools)
2. Highlight on "Disk Management"
3. On the lower right pane you should be able to see your new drive Right click for options such as creating partitions and formatting.

Doing it within windows XP is much eaier.
