I thought that in the western world you were innocent until proven guilty...Not so with Y/answers...you first get a violation and the points removed and then you have to fight to be exhonerated. Does anyone else think that this is fair? I have no problem with getting a 'pending violation' notice..as long as I have the right to present my case first.

It is the way adults treat children. I would have hoped that we could have a more equitable system, but they probably don't have the staff time to address it. I wish they could have thought this through, however. I still think the idea of having Long-Time-Users police the sites makes more sense than the current capricious nature of violations and account loss.

Unfortunately, as a "free" forum that undoubtedly receives many thousands of complaints per day, they'd need a huge paid staff to handle each on a case-by-case basis. Or, a swarm of volunteer "hall monitors" who would undoubtedly base judgments on their personal views on an issue- regardless of what you have to say in your defense. I suspect that violations are based more on the quantity of complaints than on the legitimacy of a complaint... and we all know that there are people using multiple accounts and friends to pad their statistics, and flag questions/responses they don't like.

Personally, I'd rather see the whole "violation" system done away with- since it's constantly abused and serves little purpose- in favor of a simple profanity filter. By the time a question/answer has been reviewed, most of the people that will see it already have, so the damage is done. Or, separate adults-only boards where anything goes, and thin-skinned people can stick with the moderated boards... it's not like you can't hide your email address from those not on your contact list.

So: We all sequence our genomes. We convert them to digital form. We make them haploid and label them as being either from evangelical Christians or militant atheists. We email them to someone on the other side of the debate. We have a little device attached to a USB port which can make artificial chromosomes. We make one from our own and one from our enemy's, once we've ensured the enemy is a member of the opposite sex. We inject it into a somatic cell of our own whose nucleus has been destroyed (can't use stem cells of course!) We put the resulting cell into our peritoneal cavity and implant it into our greater omentum. Nine months later we have C-sections. Result: A hybrid master race composed entirely of atheists/fundamentalists. Big plus: it builds bridges between all of us because we all have each others' children and we can no longer see each other as enemies, but as the parents of our own children. Yes, good idea!

I agree. I've been getting violation notices left and right all because some whiny little brat can't take a little harsh criticism. Can't ever contest the stupid things so, yeah I do agree with you on that. It seems to be a dictatorship at times.

I think the word I would use is "Capricious".

I mean, how many K kk Jew Hater and Dorris and other remarks to they allow?

As a private buisiness they have no obligation to promote free speech. But there is no clear case law (yet) about their culpablility if they create the forum that inspires the next Cho-type incident.

Even worse, if you had several thumbs up, they count as points. If you do manage to get your points back you do NOT get the ones back for Thumbs up" responses to your answer.
1 answer removed=10 points.
1 Answer with 2 thumbs up=12 points.

I wonder if they even monitor questions like this one to at least learn about the concerns of their customers. I seriously doubt it. Yahoo is a business. Ultimately, they only care about collecting fees from advertisers on their site.

Short of a total boycott by the LGBT community, I doubt we have any recourse.

Yes. Someone needs to go all 'Emperor Draco' on their @ss. I am sick of getting frivolous violations and then having to waste my time writing emails demanding to have my points returned.
