i dont understand why, a girl i know gets really offended if someone says she has red hair (she even started crying, something she never does) and yet she has the cheek to call herself "a ginga" and others worse(IMO) i.e "Fat", "obese" "b!tch", "ugly" etc. whats so wrong with being ginger?? surely being called a red head is less offending than ginger? or am i just being iggnorant?? =S

What's wrong with having red hair? What the? Some people even dye it red. Very odd.

Oh, it's probably because a lot of people dislike red heads.

My Grandad has ginger hair, and throughout his life, he's had to put up with english people (irish people seem to love red hair) hating him, solely for his hair. Once he was talking to someone quite happily, until he took his hat off, where the other person scowled and walked away.

So perhaps, by calling her a red head, she thinks you are teasing her, like, I don' t know, calling a *coloured* person 'blackie' or 'brownie' or something like that. Some people are sensitive to their characteristics, like this girl you know.

I didn't think it was. Apparently, it's subjective. It depends on the person you're dealing with. My girlfriend is a redhead and she's completely comfortable with being identitfied as a redhead. Ginger may be more offensive since people usually use the word "Ginger" to make fun of people. hope this helps.

She sounds a bit weird I get called red headed or ginger and I don't give a whatsit. It is only stating the obvious that I have red hair which I am very very very happy with.

what you are failing to see is that this girl has low self esteem (now don't go run off and tell her this.. it'll only make things worse) it's not that you called her a red head.. it's that you called her something she doesn't call herself.. so she wasn't desensitized and prepared for it.. don't take it personal.. and try to get her to stop calling herself bad names.

p.s. unless I've gotten real old real fast.. calling someone a red head isn't a bad thing.

ah, I read it as she is calling herself those names.

she's just a spoiled brat.. but she still probably does have some self esteem issues.

she'll grow up one day.. just forget about it and be glad you realized who she truly is... and that you aren't like that.

Wow, I have never heard of anyone getting offended because they were called a red head. I don't see that "ginger" is offensive either. It sounds like your friend is one of those people that are just looking for something to offend them; creating something out of nothing.

I am a ginger, red-head, carrot top and of all of them red head is the least offensive.
Not that there's anything wrong with any of them really.
People need to toughen up a bit I feel.

It's not so much the words but th way they are said and what is meant by them.

You can say pretty ordinary things but in a nasty way and sound horrible.

You shouldn't really refer to anyone by their hair colour or size etc as they may be offended.

I personally love redheads and am married to a beautiful one. She loves being a redhead because it's kind of different and doesn't take offense to being called such. Maybe all the name calling has gotten to this young girl. If fat, obese. ***** and ugly all go along with it, i don't think it's the redhead part that is making her cry.

My little granddaughter has beautiful red hair it shines a golden red.The kids at school are giving her a hard time just now saying her hair is a funny colour.I tell her to ignore them they are jealous because theirs is ordinary. My daughter used to get called "carrot top" when she was little and I think red heads have quite a hard time of it sometimes. So maybe tell her she has beautiful hair instead of calling her red head.
