This never made since to me, since two main themes of the bible are:
1) Helping the poor
2) promoting peace
I know a common answer may be "morality", but doesn't god have free will to follow his teachings or not?

Check out the presidential candidates and hopefuls. Every one of them on both sides is a Christian.

Have you looked at the make up of the Congress and noticed how many are Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, or who claim no religious affiliation? Since the Democratic party is more inclusive of everyone you will discover that most of those who are not Christians are indeed Democrats but you will also note that most of the Democrats are Christians.

Morality exists on both sides as does a lack of it. Some hide behind the Bible and the flag and claim to be moral when they really aren't while others are out in the open and very much moral.

The ones we really need to be concerned with are the Ur Fascists. There are more of them in the Republican party than the Democratic party. They come in the guise of born again Bible thumping, evangelistic, God fearing Christians.

Christians vote Republican mostly because of the Pro-Life and Anti-same sex marriage issues. There are many other issues that Republicans adhere to that are not Christian ideals but the Democrats are much more tolerant of sin in how they embrace Hollywood and its perverted ways. Both parties are corrupt and its choosing the lesser of two evils.

In response to God allowing free will, yes, you have a free will. You can choose to serve Him or not. That choice determines your destination after this life is over. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Actually, I think it more a case of Republicans making a much bigger *deal* out of being Christian. Last I looked, however, every since Democrat running for President is indeed Christian.

republicans help the poor and also promote peace through means other than what you would consider promoting peace. talking things out rarely works, so the republicans use force to create peace. this will probably be too tough for you to understand.

why do you say republicans dont help the poor? i donate to my church and help out to feed homeless at a shelter and im republican. most republicans help the poor without letting everyone know about it. its about helping, not getting praise. unlike the hollywood types who let you know all the good things they do. God says to do good things and not worry about people noticing.

just because republicans are against welfare and free handouts, doesnt mean we wont help when we feel it is needed. the republican party in my town sent a bus load of people to help out with hurricane katrina relief. this doesnt make us special, it just means we are willing to help when it is needed. free handouts and welfare do nothing but increase the problem by creating dependence in the individual recieving the handout. this doesnt always happen, but in alot of cases, the person fails to use the welfare to get themselves out of poverty and instead it just acts as their income until it runs out. it was supposed to be a tool to get people back on their feet, and it rarely acts as such

quit stereotyping and listening to the media and michael moore. thats like saying all democrats are poor and republicans are rich, its not true

also, republicans for the most part are against abortion, democrats are not. abortion clearly goes against christian principles. homosexuality is looked down upon by God, another issue that the parties tend to be divided on

the main theme of the Bible is the salvation by Jesus Christ.

helping the poor can be accoomplished by directly giving them money or by creating an environment where the poor elevate themselves out of poverty.
Promoting peace can be accomplished by simply not fighting back or by being so strong that no one attacks you.

Jesus didn't take a stand on either position.
Jesus helped the poor, but He also said to pay your taxes.
Jesus didn't resist when He was arrested, but He also didn't cause the soldiers to disappear or anything like that.

Confused is right. God does not have free will; He grants it to people. God was not necessarily a God of peace but one of justness.

You must understand that the Dems don't want peace and they don't want to help the poor, per se. They just want to do whatever the other party isn't doing. By pandering to the poor, and helping keep them enslaved in poverty, they create a perceived need in society - that need is for increased government to care for the poor that they have created. Government should be there to HELP, not HAND-OUT.

Other issues include abortion; Christians will side with whatever party is not in favor of killing unborn babies. Christians are called to speak out for those who cannot protect themselves. The unborn epitomize this.

The Republicans are not pure like the wind-driven snow. I think Bush and his cronies are as crooked as we've seen since Nixon (Clinton notwithstanding). However, the principals embraced by the party are more in keeping with Christians' beliefs.

Because Repulicans are just that versitile. They can preach one thing and turn around and do another. Pretty neat deal huh.

Turn the other cheek=Bomb the brown people.
Love thy neighboor=But don't pay for it with my tax money
Life is sacred, abortion is bad=Once you're born you get no health care and a lousy education and we might just kill you with an electric chair

The Democratic Party has effectively signed on to secular humanism as its full throttle philosophy. Christians, while many support separation of church and state, most often reject Humanism outright.

The fight is about morality but it is more than that...its about worldviews.

i'm neither Christian nor republican (yet) but I think Jesus taught us to teach a man to fish so he can eat a lifetime as opposed to give a man a fish he'll eat a day.
help the poor help themselves by tightening the welfare system.
