I think so, although there are so many people doing it, it would be difficult to proscecute them all. It is illegal though

No what will happen possibly is that a record company will sue you for illegally downloading music and infringing copyright laws. They could sue for a lot of money, possibly thousands of pounds. It is a civil not a criminal offence. I don't think the police would be interested unless you were copying the songs and selling the pirated copies illegally. That could be constituted as theft. The correct thing to do is download from a legit site like I tunes and pay a small royalty fee for each tune. It is much safer.Limewire itself is not illegal as it is a P2P or file sharing site. It enables you to link with other computers and share and copy files. This is illegal if the owner of the other computer has not given permission. As it is you and not Limewire that does the downloading they are not guilty of anything.Morally I suppose they are wrong because they know what is going on.and allow it to happen.

It depends on the severity of what you are doing.
What we all need to understand is that peer 2 peer, file sharing, whatever you want to call it is not illegal, its a perfectly legal and feasible form of technology to allow file transfers between host machines.
Downloading music and videos from these applications is legal if you own the license for that material in the first instance. IE: If I own a stone roses album and the disk becomes unusable, I have already purchased a license and therefore am legally entitled to obtain a further copy of the album.
If i download the album and have never purchased a license for it (payed for the album in store / online etc) then it becomes illegal for me to do this.
If you have illegal copyrighted material on your pc, on disk or on video then the police can prosecute you under certain laws, the company who owns the rights to the illegal media can also rightfully claim against you, and if they try to prove you were duplicating for profit you're screwed.
Turning off the option to share files on the applications or even moving them to another folder once downloaded will prevent any form of anti p2p agency snooping too much, but the media is stillpresent and if found you can be prosecuted and this can include jail terms.

Millions of people use Limewire and other programs like it, so how on earth are the police going to track you down, unless they are investigating your computer for something else even then I don't think they will be interested what you are doing with Limewire, just enjoy the program and don't worry.

Yes, because your almost certainly downloading copyright material. Just dont share. I think the chances of getting caught are fairly remote. Not so long ago there was great concerns about "taping" music off the radio. Copying progs.of the TV with your video machine and so on. Dont lose sleep over it

It's very illegal to download copyrighted songs. You can download Creative Commons licensed songs though.

all you got to do is not share. Go to library and click or shared and turn it off.
Cause if you share files, songs, videos. they can get your IP adress and notify your ISP. Internet service provider.
Thats happened to me first time you usually dont get fined.
now ive learned my lesson I dont share and download music or videos ;)
