I lost someone close to me recently. They committed suicide. The person had people that loved him all around. So, why do that? When things would have gotten better.

Depression, and / or mental illness.

I'm sorry for your loss, and I hope your friend is at peace now.

I believe people who commit suicide do so to end mental and emotional pain. They get so deeply depressed that they feel this is the only way to end the pain. I speak from experience with depression. It is like being in a deep, dark, pit, and you feel like no one around you can help you, no matter how hard they try. Some people turn to alcohol, which is actually worse because alcohol is a depressant. Some turn to food to numb the pain. What they really need is therapy and to get on anti depressants. Depression is a chemcial imbalance in the brain. Sometimes depression is inhereted. People who seem so happy on the outside may believe they have to hide their depression for fear of turning others away. Also, there is such a negative stigma associated with any mental illness, that people don't want to admit they have a problem.
(Please note that I am not a therapist or mental health professional, but I know from personal experience.)

Many people are clinically depressed. Depression is a disease--more than just a matter of looking at the bright side. People tend to commit suicide when they are convinced that there are no other options left in resolving a problem. They convince themselves that all doors are closed and death is the only option. The fact that others love them does not fit into the equation...They don't see the love of others as a means to overcome what is in front of them....So, it usually is not comforting to them....

Often times it's a chemical imbalance. Look at the comedian Richard Jeni that just committed suicide - he was at the top of his game and people loved him.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with you or the people in that person's life. Depression presents itself in many ways, often not detectable by even the closest people. It also has nothing to do with the eventuality of things getting better or worse, it's the inability for the person to cope with the now.

I am very sorry for your loss. At least you made their life bearable for the time they were on this earth.

Firstly calm down...Only time can heal what u r going through right now. Give yourself some quality time. Remember God created u with a purpose and u have no right to end your life. Don't even think so. Life is very precious. U will have good times ahead. Do not lose hope. Go have fun. Play, exercise, keep a pet or do yoga to overcome your thoughts. Live life. Its just a phase. And talk to your mom in person if u can. She will definitely understand. Be a good human; ul have a gud life ahead...Dont worry. everything will be fine Take care always

First off sorry to hear of your loss. I have lost two people close to me to suicide. I learned that depression is powerful and it seems to hide within Drugs abuse and loneliness. You say things got better ? Not for him even if it appears things got better and some even say it is, but not inside themselves. It is something I will never know. One thing I did for years was blame myself and blame myself some more. I had to get help for that and really only until then could I heal. I wasted a lot of time doing that. My advise is do not blame your self, and if you do get some help. Its a waste of your precious life. Let go and let God. Feel the pain to the core and process your emotions. Allow yourself to grieve. Love this person and pray for him . God bless you and good luck. If you ever need to talk to anyone feel free to email me.

I think people are overwhelmed with a sense of hopelessness, I think people who commit suicide especially at a young age lack the ability to see the whole picture and realise that what is going on in their life right doesn't necessarily dictate what their life will be like.

I have struggled with this question also because I've lost friends to suicide. I think they just become so hopeless that they feel things will never get better. It is a terrible and tragic loss to lose someone you care about this way. Take care of yourself.

Suicide attempts and completions usually follow deep depression. Depression can be situational (following an event) or it could be long lasting (clinical). To learn more about this serious mental disorder, check out the links below. The information is too voluminous to paste here.

people commit suicide when they feel there is nothing left to live for. it is the belief that this life is not worth living that makes one commit suicide. it is a sad thing in life to face bbut with some people no matter how perfect their life might be they just feel that life is not worth all the drama.

I am sorry for your loss. No one can ever know what truly goes on inside someone elses mind. To feel an overwhelming emptiness must have been too hard a burden for your loved one. The future was not their concern, they were drowning in the present. Again, I am so sorry.
