Good question. Woodland Hills is located at the south end of the valley and is among the lowest locations in the valley. Being low in elevation means it gets more compressional heating during Santa Ana conditions. It is also directly north of some of the highest parts of the Santa Monica Mountains and is blocked from the cooling effects of the on shore sea breezes. Last year the weather station at Pierce College, Woodland Hills, recorded a record high temperature of 119 degrees.
