For two very basic reasons -
1.The USA is in Iraq because BushCo lied to a very, very gullible American public, and,
2.Congress didn't have the guts to challenge the lies because they believed them all along.
Self-deception is a frequent of getting something when no legitimate method is available to get it. The public was cornered into thinking (via the President and the media) that Hussein was a threat (due to false ties with Al Qaeda) and that a military option was all that remained to resolve the non-problem.

A better question would be why are we involved in the middle east? As the main "World Supper Power" do we have a responsibility to help maintain peace in this part of the world? Is it important for the world economies to have an environment that allows for business to survive in a normal way? Do most of the world economies need oil? Is there anything better than oil to run all of the machines that now exist and which we must now rely on?

Well, the simple answer would be oil, but that is not all there is to it. If there is no stability in the oil producing region (middle east) then oil will sky-rocket or be used to hold the U.S. economy hostage. If anyone thinks that pulling out and leaving the area unstable is the right way to go, they have only themselves to blame when the U.S. economy goes in the tank and companies start closing/down-sizing putting people out of work.
And one more thing, solly_flush,what do you call a person that misspells "Moron", eh?

Reasons we are in Iraq.1-There is a group of people called Neo-Cons who have this glorious vision of a New World Order made in the likeness of America,, Slavery included{cheap labor} Dominated and or dictated by America. 2-Saddam Hussein sent a hit squad to take out George senior so the Old Code of the West {Texas version } dictated an armed response whenever it was feasible.

Because Bush is trying to 'finish his father's work' or something. I have heard NO viable excuse to invade them because of a terrorist attack that didn't come from there (from my understanding). And WTF did Saddam have to do with that? A lot of it seems to be the U.S. sticking their nose into others' business. Why do you think the U.N. were against it?
