Yes, for women who are at risk of developing blood clots in the placenta (which leads to miscarriage), they now recommend baby aspirin. Thousands of women take higher doses of aspirin while pregnant for other purposes (like migraines) and it doesn't cause problems except in the last 3 months (where it's a case by case issue). There are some studies, not very big, that claim that aspirin actually increases miscarriages but it seems that it may actually not be true. Since you are older, you are at greater risk of blood clots, hence the recommendation. The alternative is once or twice daily heperin injections, athough I think this is typically restricted to women on bedrest.
I take aspirin regularly and my doctor just said that I will need to stop if certain complications arise and 10 days before planned c-section (as I did last time). We would discuss it more in depth once I am (this was a pre-pregnancy discussion).

In some cases miscarriages are caused by poor blood flow to the fetus/placenta or blood clots in the vessels that connect mom and baby. By taking baby aspirin it would help to thin the blood and thus can prevent miscarriages caused by clotting. Also if a person has had multiple miscarriages that were not caused by incompetant cervix than clotting could likely have been the cause. In more sever cases, some moms are required to give themselves daily injections of more potent blood thinners to prevent a loss of the pregnancy. Sounds like the aspirin may just be a preventative measure taken by your doc. Godd luck.

Aspirin thins your blood and is generally not used during pregnancy. Acetaminophin is the only thing my doc would let me take for pain, and he said absolutely no aspirin of any kind for any reason. Since you bleed so much when you deliver your baby the last thing you want is thinner blood so you bleed more. I think I would seek another opinion before I take aspirin! Good luck

i am on 100mg of aspirin, since my embryo transfer and I have to take it pretty much almost up to the end, 37 weeks I think my doc said. I am almost 15 weeks pregnant now. Just make sure that whenever you go for blood tests and stuff you always let them know you are on daily aspirin.

it helps to thin the blood and also thin cervical mucus thus helping sperm etc. to travel more quickly to their destination.
