Lol! That is so true. I guess because many people pray. But it's not the common experience of the majority to actually get an answer.
So when one does get an answer they are seen as weird and crazy. A little hypocritical I guess because if you are praying to God then you obviously believe he exist. So if he exists then why wouldn't he speak back if he feels like it.

If he's big enough to handle the problems millions come to him with then I guess he's powerful enough to speak back if he so chooses.

Because prayer is an act of hope and faith which is human. But to hear an answer is no longer to believe, but to know and that is dangerous. So you better have a damn good reason to prove that you heard (as in Moses, Jesus etc), or you are threatening the rest of us with a complex problem (and often a harmful one i.e. terrorism). If everyone on this earth who claimed to hear from God actually did then God would be the most mixed up confused person ever. We should realize that the purpose of prayer isn't about getting an answer, it's about growing in faith. How can you grow in faith if you're always getting an answer? It's more likely that those who claim to be getting an answer have yet to really process the answers God has already given to mankind in other ways. So it's a fundamentally smug thing for someone to claim they have an answer 99% of the time, because the truth is mankind has all the answers they need already. Now we just need to have the faith and character to implement them.

I would think it has more to do with what you do that justifies "God talking to you." If you are a TV Evangelist, you can do well. If you do good things (take care of the poor, clean up a park, live life well) then no one worries. When you say you hear god, and he is telling you to kill people, then the loony bin looks right. Also, I think that it has something to do with willingness to share, and what a person knows he/she should keep to themselves in certain situations.

First off: God would never tell anyone to harm or kill anyone let alone a child!!!!!
Secondly: If one hears that they are to do something that broke any of the the Ten Commandments, then this is DEFFINATELY NOT THE VOICE OF GOD!!!!! Therefore that are hearing voices of demons and if they do as they are being told by this voice, they should be labeled insane and the safest place for all concerened is indeed the LOONY BIN as you call it.

It's very hard to differentiate what exactly we are hearing. Is it God? Or is it our ego? If we are truly hearing the voice of God, we definitely will not be put into a loony bin.

bc if you seriously think that GOD spoke to you then you should be put in the loony bin. crazy people are always the ones who hear GOD, i mean the voices in their heads.

Look at some of the things that have happend because God allegidly spoke to someone. Specically look at the examples of parents that have brought harm or death onto their children because "God told them to."

The "loony bin," seriously, they got off lite.

I had to laugh when I read this one.It reminded me of Noah.
some people who think they hear God don't indeed they actually hear satan and unfortunatly don't know the difference.
It says "my sheep will know my voice and I will know them".
God is not of flesh so its not a person talking to them, therefore they are concidered 'loony'.
We pray to talk to God,he talks back through His own voice, which is spirit.

Because the same person who claims that 'god spoke to him' is also like a hillbilly who was 'abducted by alien spacecraft'.

If the event did, in fact -take place, only a crazy person would expect us to believe it. Reporting such events are solid grounds for dismissal from aviation. Who wants to fly with a pilot who 'sees aliens'

The same is true for a person whom 'God talks to', isn't it? If God speaks to me about anything I should tell around, He knows He'd better provide me with the ability to raise the dead, etc...
