Getting a lawyer is not a bad idea but the first thing you should do is approach the landlord (or the rental office) with copies of your money orders, showing that you paid the rent. Before you engage a lawyer (and the expense of a lawyer), see if you can work it out between you and the landlord or rental agent. Do not take the originals of your money orders -- use copies. If you leave your originals, they might suddenly "get lost," and then you will have lost your proof.

Politely discussing the situation with your landlord or rental agent will be very good for you if you ever have to take this further. If you go straight to a lawyer, your lawyer will ask if you ever discussed this with the landlord/rental agent. Might as well do that first.

Good luck!

Hi,
How could you be evicted for non payment? If in fact you were paying, and you haven't broken the lease in any way, why would you get evicted? You are leaving out some information here. I own rental properties, and if you haven't broken the lease in any way then there's no way that you would be evicted. Now tell us the rest of the story so we can all answer correctly.

I agree with nosredna.. Why are you being evicted. It might have nothing to do with lack of payment. Maybe you arent keeping up the yard. I helped somebody with a lease agreement, and they could kick them out if they got a pet. Or if somebody started living there that wasnt on the lease. Why are you being evicted?

You better get a lawyer. Your money order receipts are good, but it doesn't prove that you gave the money to your landlord. Hopefully, you've gotten receipts from him/her.

Are your landlords claiming non receipt of payment? How do you deliver your money orders to them (mail, in person).

i would try to get an attorney, then have all the money orders traced. your attorney will know how to go about that. having your money orders traced, will prove who cashed them, and when they were cashed or deposited. good luck to you.
