I know that i left my diamond ring on the bedside table but when i rang the next day they said it had not been found. How can this be possible. I once left a pair of pyjamas in the same hotel chain and they apparently did not find these either!!

Where do i stand, can i involve the police? I need advice

Notify the police in case it turns up; check with hotel manager and the chain public relations people.

Check with your homeowners insurance.

Sorry

You can file a police report, and you can file a lawsuit against the hotel.

The cops probably won't be able to find anyone, and probably won't look that hard anyway, if at all. And you'd probably lose your lawsuit since you would not be able to prove you ever had the ring there in the first place and you would not be able to prove that you actually left it there or that someone took it. The hotel, I'm sure, has a policy that they are not responsible for lost or stolen articles that you signed off on when agreeing to rent the room.

There IS something you can do. First, you MUST file a police report. Second, is contact your homeowners insurance carrier. You have a certain amount of coverage that is carried over to other temporary living quarters. It will also help if you have a receipt or some other form of ring worth. It should be pretty easy. Just be prepared to receive the value of the ring minus the deductible.

You should have notified the police at once. Doubt if they can do anything now. Whoever cleaned the room probably stole the items and of cause never reported it. If police had been called right away they probably would have caught the person..
Now remember never take off anything valuable and leave it laying around in any hotel...Experience is a hard way to learn ..

Unless you can prove you (1) had a real diamond ring (you will need receipt and certificate of authenticity) and (2) that you left this ring on their table in the hotel room, then it's their word against yours.

You can file a police report and then file a claim with YOUR insurance carrier. But that's about it. And please note, whether your insurance carrier or the hotels, most policies cover only up to $1,000 in value.

i've worked in hotels for years and jumped up wankers have accused staff of stealing on many occasions....not one occasion has this been the case. these things have ALWAYS turned up about 2 weeks later, either...someone put it in the wrong place and the person who took the lost property enquiry couldnt find it, its under the bed cupboard and was found when room deep cleaned
or guest discovers they are ******** and had it all along.

there is a chance someone nicked it (but that doesnt really explain your jammies does it) or they may have a shite system. ring again or get over it.

Nothing you can do. I doubt that the cleaning person turned the diamond ring into the hotel. You need to be responsible for your stuff.

Sorry to hear about that.

Have you covered the ring under your homeowners policy?Check your homeowners policy to see if you have the ring covered and if you gave the insurance company the description and the appraisal from the ring. If you did, then the ring may be covered. I have all of my wife's and my jewelery and watches covered on our homeowners policy for just this reason.

You were the foolish one to take the ring off in the first place! If you were more careful with your belongings, you wouldn't have this problem!!! Turn it in on your homeowners insurace and have enough sense to check your room BEFORE you turn the keys in!!! Hello!
