It will scan disk and defrag if I go to safe mode. My d drive will do both without going to safe mode without a problem....any fixes???? All updates are installed..

Might be able to use something like Symantec SystemWorks in standalone mode, from a CDrom, to try to verify the disk structure.
Another alternative, not fun: remove the disk and put into a disk enclosure with USB connection. Attach to another system for the purpose of saving files, i.e. to a CDrom. Then run scan and/or defrag from that system. Disk enclosures can be purchased for as low as $10 when you catch a sale. Generally they're about $20 - $30.

had a pc with windows me -it was so buggy and terrible. I don't know how to fix it. I ended up by the grace of god being able to pull off the files i needed and i junked the entire system.
