I have a die-hard Mets fan husband that tells my 3 year old son that if he isn’t a “Mets fan, he will be disowned, you’ll disappoint daddy, etc”. This also goes for my in-laws that tell him the same thing and informed me, that that’s the way it’s going to be whether my son or I like it or not. It goes on to the point that whenever the Yankees are mentioned on TV or radio with my son around, my husband/in-laws are quick to tell my son in a stern voice that the “Yankees are evil and that they hate little children, They are bad, etc.” I really don’t need my 3-year-old learning this hate or getting fresh with an adult wearing a Yankees hat or t-shirt and telling them off. Not only that, I don’t need him going to school and getting popped in the face for mouthing off to another child who’s a Yankee fan because my son is spitting out what he has learned (and probably doesn't understand) and tells them he/she’s a loser for liking the Yankees. Am I wrong?!

I really don't think this is in all good fun either. They will seriously be upset if my son ever decided to be a Yankee's fan. I believe he will become a Mets fan just being around the family watching the game, etc., but I think they are going to far with this.

I am a die hard Mets fan as well and i do think u are right. I mean If ur husband is just watching the games with ur son he will grow up to like the Mets, thats what my father did with me. Just take him to a few games and also let him watch the Yankees as well this way he doesnt get "popped" when he goes to school. But i agree with you.

Your son should love the Mets for the same reason I love the Mets- my dad took me to Shea Stadium and those days make for some of my happiest memories.

There are things you tell a small child they must not do, i.e., talking to strangers, crossing the street by himself. This can never apply to baseball! My wife's a Yankee fan and we joke about which team our future children (God willing) will follow. I'm using the same formula as my dad, and I'm confident his or her bedroom will have a fair amount of orange and royal blue.

You are not wrong. Baseball is for the fans that love to watch and go to games, it is not a game of hate. It's great to be a fan of one team or another but let's not carry it too far, especially when kids are involved.

i think you should sit down with your hubby & inlaws & tell them your son is only 3 & he doesn;t need to hear such negativity...He should be able to like whoever he wants..i am also a Mets fan & my hubby is a Yankee fan, our daughter can root for either one or not at all
