Yeah I can tell. They key is learning to laugh at yourself, and have respect for others. There are certain jokes aimed at black people that I can laugh at, but others would find offensive!
Like whats the real reason why Stevie Wonder can't read?
Because he's black!
Its a joke, but not everyone would find that funny, black, or white!
Trust me I know!
So I only tell it to certain people, that I know would appreciate it an laugh with me! I got that joke from a white Comic!
Peace!

Most people believe that a joke is the same thing as racism. It would be wise to cut off on the jokes so much. You should really just make racist jokes on your own race so that no one else gets offended and you wont have this problem.

Real racists often initiate their racism through casual humor, you can call it doing it on the D/L.
They will start out by sharing racists jokes with you about other races, then as time moves on they will start applying racial stereotypes to you personally. After you file an official complaint they'll be like ohhh I was just jokin with him, why's everyone so PC today?
That's why sometimes you just have to whoop that ***. That's a lasting lesson.

I used to be able to. Now I'm not so sure .
15 years ago, this was a joke.
What do you call a Chinese baby who was born retarded ?
Answer: Sum Ting Wong
Now if I put that out there it would seem racist, and I am not racist .
So who knows, society can judge how they want, but I know myself how I am and how I feel about other people . And if we stop laughing about ourselves, things are going to get pretty boring quick .

Great question. I agree with Meghin V, it is better when everyone stick to jokes within one''s own race, so nobody will assume racism.
I take the opportinuty to put my other 2cents in. It is not only about racist jokes, but other people deny their racism on cultural differences or misinterpretation by the other race to hide their deep thoughts.

On the Internet, it is hard to tell if you are joking or not, because there is no context (no voice tone, no body language, no facial expression, and no shared experiences) that tells everyone that it is just a joke. In other words, we don't know you, can't see you, and cannot hear you, so no one knows what your intentions are.
Besides, maybe no one can tell if you are joking simply because your jokes really aren't all that funny. It is possible.

If you have to explain a joke, then it's not a good joke. Race jokes are now like knock - knock jokes - outdated and not that funny anymore. Find some new material.

If you're not a racist, why put yourself in the arena with racists? Why not distance yourself from racism, so that people will know you're not a racist?

Uh, yes I can. Any time someone is being made fun of based on their culture, ethnicity, race, sex or disability, it's NOT FUNNY on any level.
I don't care about tone of voice, inflection or audience. That doesn't matter. When you make light of something like that, it's bigotry.
