B) Having been dubbed the elite of the elite, 2. SS-Panzerdivision "Das Reich" was honored with 69 Knight's Crosses, 151 German Crosses in Gold and 29 honor Roll Clasp recipients. It also boasted 3 Swords and 10 Oak Leaves to the Knight's Cross holders. Cumulatively, more high award winners served in it's ranks than any other Division in the Waffen-SS.

That is a very difficult question to answer. As a veteran of WW2 I can only tell you that practically every soldier ( towards the end of the war) had an Iron Cross. It was a way of keeping up morale, I would not know the number of higher decorations that the top brass received, and I doubt if anyone in the States would know. The Germans, being meticulous about keeping records of everything probably have in their archives who received what. I can tell you that some of those Panzer Divisions were awesome, especially those that had been seasoned with the German invasion of Europe and later, those that were pulled back from Russia. Good Luck.

The ss were a bunch of posers who came in after the weirmarch won a victory and terrorized civilians. They were the same type of camp following scum that follow every victorious army.

A = Losers,
B = Losers,
C= Losers,
D = Losers,

Seeing as the ss were on the losing side the question is irrelevent.

They fought often in the fore-front of many battles and engagements but were fanatic fascists, many had no formal military training and would often waste their manpower on suicidal frontal assaults, where as Wehrmact Infantry & Cavalry officers schooled in infantry and cavalry tactics would work there way around the enemy and close in from the rear.

But thats what happens when you have political soldiers like the ss. blind undoubting loyalty in a leader who was as mad as a hatter, most ss went from being brain-washed hitler youths to being dead teenagers.

The world is a far better place without them.

They also excelled at being concentration camp guards, extermination camp guards, who only had to fear masses of starving unarmed civilians, and they were quite good at burning churches with French women and children inside as well as executing surrendered military POW.
