Looking for a good family vacation spot in Northern Ca.?

Someplace I can drive to in 6 hours or less then stay a few days fairly inexpensively. Maybe close to nature? Not Disneyland! Small towns or great place to camp would be cool.

Clear Lake and the near by Russian River. But it's kinda expensive to stay there.

And as poster 1 said the Big Sur redwood country is AWESOME.. We hippies in the 1960s loved it.

Eureka, CA - I had to plan a vacation for this location in one of my hospitality courses in college. Lots to offer... redwoods, beautiful beaches, quaint town, horseback riding, whitewater rafting. check it out.
