It is supposed to be a day to remember those who lost their lives in the fight for freedom and to establish our nation. Significantly, it has become a day to thank and give honor to our troops, both those currently serving, and those no longer, both living and dead.
However, it has become a sort of summer initiation holiday, in which we celebrate the opening of pools and bick backyard cook-outs.
If you want to get a sense of what Memorial Day is supposed to be about, drive by or stop in an American Legion of VFW post this weekend, and simply thank everyone there. You will make their days, and do justice to what this holiday is supposed to be about.
Oh, and it also means the Coca-Cola 600 for NASCAR. Wish Indy didn't move it's time a few years ago, so more guys could try to pull the double and race both events.

There are 3 main objectives of Memorial Day:
1. To get a day off work/school.
2. To BBQ and get drunk.
3. Oh yeah, and remember all the soldiers who have died to protect our right to #1 and #2.

To honor the soldiers that served the US. In "memorial" to them. That's why we have parades the leave to cemeteries where they usually hold a service and have a 21 gun salute.

To remember the people who died in war for us! If we didn't have these people we wouldn't have the freedoms we have! The freedoms we take for granted like freedom of religion and freedom of speech people in other countries are dying for it! We are so lucky!
