I love surprise endings, but they have to be believable and not totally outrageous.

Anyone know any good ones?

I read "Sleeping Dogs" by Sonya Hartnett recently and its ending left me breathless. Very shocking and unexpected. The book is about a family (mother, father, five children) who live on a farm and who also run an adjoining caravan (trailer) park. An artist comes to stay at their park and finds the family interesting and mysterious. He sets out to discover their secret and does so to a devastating conclusion. I really didn't see the ending coming and after I closed the book I was left speechless. It's been weeks since I first read it and it's still haunting me. I highly recommend this book.

Happy reading! :-)

The Sword of Shanarra - Terry Brooks

The First Trilogy of Thomas Covenant - Stephen R. Donaldson.

I love the way these book end and it was a complete surprise. Of course, good triumps over evil - it's just the way it does that surprising.

SEARCH FOR THE SUN by Ellen Anthony. You spend most of the book wanting to find the murderer, but after the murderer is caught and kills himself, you discover what else he did and it is heart-wrenching.
