I saw some pretty decent questions come through from people that really need answers to questions, but who were bombarded by negative remarks about the country. Don't get me wrong. I am very much for freedom of speech, but I feel that if someone asks a genuine question for homework help or whatever that we should try and help instead of bicker about our personal issues. What's your take?

Yes, I am sometimes guilty of this and I promise to try to improve. But I cannot help being defensive about my country and I do acknowledge the truth about it's situation. Sorry Porgie!
But then what do you say when someone asks: What is the code for Angola South Africa?!?!?! Makes me wonder!!!

I live in Australia and I love it here....but South Africa is always in my heart....and yes I get disappointed with all the negativity from some of the regulars...Having said that, I understand that since I'm not in SA, I perhaps do not fully appreciate what's going on over there at the moment. However, that, does not mean that I like the constant negativity...and I tend to observe that this stems more from those S Africans outside SA than those that actually live there...

I think South Africans are getting fed up by defending their country.Although things are not perfect, we are the country with the strongest economy in Africa, have a very progressive political system (although we are never happy with whom is in power),a big diversity in people and natural resources, but we are still part of Africa and the world brush us with the same negative brush as the rest off Africa. We therefore find it irritating that outsiders don't even take the time to find out where we are on the map or look beyond the propaganda they are fed on their news channels. We are our own biggest critics and don't need any help.

I know where you are coming from but let me reverse it "Dont you think some South Africans are received as arrogant with their Proudly South African slogan when the place is going backward?"
There is another Answerer on here who lives in England who has stopped answering on this section "because you are all in denial about your crime." He goes on to say " he avoids South Africans in England unless he knows them very well." Its maybe hard to swallow ,Porgie, but there are many people whom I encounter in the UK who find South Africans best to avoid for a number of reasons not the least of which is this Proudly South African.

I really object to ignorant questions or questions where the answer can be found by a google.

Instead why don't they find the broad strokes elsewhere - like we would do re their countries and ask specific questions for more clarification.

I am happy to answer those.

What do you think about this then?

Believe that the truth is what it is - negative or not!!

If someone asks a q i will give my honest answer.

Its not about being arrogant, its about being true to yourself and to the person you are answering.

Sugar coating things just causes more problems in the world.

Yes I agree, but don't ask stupid questions like: Why are your country called South Africa? or Do you guys still live in trees. (Of course, we plug the computers in our asses and use the guy with the BIG ears as our antenna's to get into the server!!! Ooooooh!)

Having a good morning... can you see my friend?

I think people answer questions based on their own personal experiences and thoughts on the country.

I dont think its to be mean or nasty or anything its just how that person feels.

My view, ignore them if you dont like them but dont expect people to change or to sugar-coat who they are.

Jan B has said most of it quite well, and Poepies just made me snort out loud...lol!

Yes we can try help where possible, but not to those who choose to be ignorant and those who are just trying to ruffle our feathers for the heck of it.

Maybe. Do we have to suffer total ignorance, or do a school assignment for someone.

Specific questions deserve an answer, Requiring us to write essays?? Nope, tough.
