I am thinking about going to school to become an engineer, but I really don't fully know what different types there are and what the best type of schools to go to is. Does anyone have any ideas about a good site I can reasearch it on?

For most subjects, the best universities are also the best universities for that field -- so if you were majoring in English, Math or philosophy -- then the best places are the Ivy League schools, Duke, Stanford, Chicago, Northwestern and the very best public universities (like Berkeley or Michigan).

But Engineering is the one field where the better state universities are as good or better than the better private universities. Sure, MIT and Cal Tech dominate other schools in terms of being great engineering schools. But public universities like Berkeley, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and any of the schools in the Big Ten are also incredibly good in engineering.

If you want a good public university for engineering the University of University usually have good engineering programs -- while directional schools like Northern State University are usually not as good. Bi-directional schools -- like South-East State University should be avoided.

I am currently a chemical engineering major at the University of Rhode Island. Different types include: mechanical, chemical, electrical, civil, ocean, metallurgical, environmental, computer, and many others... All depends on what you're interested in.

What it all comes down to is what you want: location, size, specific major, cost... All factors to take into account. The number one engineering school year-after-year is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). But, it costs a lot of money (A LOT) and is very difficult to get into. Other top-ranked schools for engineering are in California. I would look on www.collegeboard.com. You can enter the information you want and search for schools. Good luck.
