Hey every one, I have a wild squirrel in my back yard that I have been feeding Peanuts for a while. We decided to name her Peanut, and yes she is a she, she has the little squirrel nipples that indicate her femality.
Are there any other foods that would help a squirrel? Or anything that would be hazardous to her health?
She is so cute and is getting used to me and my brother, she even trusts us enough to lay down with her stomach to our porch and nibble peanuts.
Also, is there any way to tell if a female squirrel is pregnant?

We don't leave any food outside, have alot of skunks on the street.
I've only been giving her a few peanuts from my hand, she has a nest I guess I could call it, in our neighbors Tree, so when ever she comes down she usually just pokes around on our little porch in the back.

Squirrels love cracked corn or dried cobs of corn. They love bird seed, sunflower seeds, nuts, etc. They really aren't too picky.

Be careful feeding any wild animal, especially squirrels. Wild squirrels, or more specifically the fleas on them, are one of the main vectors of bubonic plague. When I worked for the county vector control, we would trap squirrels and remove their fleas to be tested for the plague. I would recommend not being close enough to any wild animal that you could pick up fleas - and fleas can jump several feet!
Also, remember that both males and females have nipples (just like people), even though if you can see them it is most likely a female, she may already be nursing a litter somewhere.

The dried ears of corn are a good solution. If you put them on special squirrel feeders mounted in a tree or on a post, the squirrel will be able to get at them, but the skunks will not. They make a CRAZY spinning wheel type that not only feeds the squirrel, but causes it to do loops to get at it. Fun for it, FUNNY for you! Our neighbor has one.

The fact that you have seen squirrell nipples is disturbing. But I put out squirrell feeders with dry ears of corn. Our squirrell loves it. Most pet stores sell wild feed for squirrells.

Squirrels are fun to feed but beware.More will move in.If you have a bird feeder they'll make it difficult to keep.If they can they'll get into the eaves of your house. They'll run around and scratch all night.Don't even think about the fleas and ticks their carrying around.I started feeding one a few years ago.I had to take down the bird feeder. Then we were kept up all night with them running around in our house.By the time I trapped them all I caught 8 of them. No,I didn't kill them.My advice don't feed the squirrel. If you do make sure your house is air-tight.
