Most people will tell you that the Packers have no shot of the playoffs but, in the NFC, I think they have a chance of slipping in. They have a solid core of young players on defense (AJ Hawk should break out this year) and you can't ever write them off as long as Favre is playing.
However, I disagree about the WR position... Driver is still solid and Greg Jenkins looks to be an up-and-comer. The big problem is the running game. The O-line isn't scaring anyone and while Morency has good speed and moves, he seems better suited to a 3rd-down role, not a feature back. They really should have done something to address this in the draft (Michael Bush would have been a great pick) or at least picked up a 2nd-tier free agent (Chris Brown is still out there and would be a good fit). The reason the running game is so important is b/c that means Favre doesn't have to force nearly as many throws as he's had to in the past few years. A strong running game will help him stay within a 2:1 TD to INT ratio... without it, he's closer to 1.5:1 and they won't win enough games that way.
Bottom line is that the NFC is weak enough that they could claim a playoff spot. After looking at their schedule (below), they will probably go 8-8 but, if they pull off an upset or two, that would put them at 9-7 or 10-6 and in the playoffs. Disclaimer: this assumes a sweep of the Vikes and Lions, which won't be easy. It's possible but not very likely. Good luck...

I can't see the Packers reaching the playoffs this year. Hunger alone is not going to get the Pack to the Playoffs. Remember when Elway won those two Super Bowls he was handing off to the game's best running back at that time, Terrell Davis. Favre has no such help.
Furthermore, the game has passed Brett Favre by. The NFL no longer favors gunslingers like Favre who throw 20+picks per season. I just can't see the Pack getting to the playoffs with Favre throwing the ball into triple coverage like he seems to do nowadays.

The Packers will make the playoffs as the NFC North champs in 2007. Favre has a good receiving corps to throw to this year in Driver, Jennings, and Koren Robinson. Brandon Jackson and Morency are excellent receivers out of the backfield, something Brett's been missing since Ahman Green's injury in 2004. The biggest plus for Brett is the fact that his O-line will be vastly improved and cohesive. Having a decent line in front of him will remind him of the days when Wahle, Rivera, and Winters were still in Green Bay...he'll actually have time to throw the ball.
With McCarthy's style of offense with the quick, short passes and 35-40 running plays per game, Brett should come close to 30 TDs and have fewer than 15 Ints. Green Bay's defense will help out even more this year by shutting down opponents and coming up with more turnovers. It'll be an exciting team to watch.
P.S. Anyone who says Favre is washed up and should have retired is just scared to have their team play him and the Packers this year. How did the Bears fare against him in week 17 of 2006?

No way, Farve is stunting that teams growth. There is no way he takes them to the playoffs. Not with Da Bears and now possibly the Lions running circles around GB. There is no reason for him to be on the team, besides A-Rod still suffering that broken foot. My whole point is that if they go 8-8 or 9-7 or whatever. What have they achieved? they can do that with A-Rod, at the same grooming him to be the franchise QB. While Brent Farve is padding his stats, And preventing Rodgers to get on the same page with the young and new guys. Dont get me wrong Brent is a ledgend, but I think he should let the Packers rebuild with out him, after all he has to retire sooner or later, and stop toying with the fans and the media.

Yeah right, if a player ran a team it would be loaded with his friends and completely suck. Not to mentin he'd load up the salary cap and lead the team in shambles. I'm a Packer fan, I want to see the Packers win. It's about the team, not all about Favre. Most Packer fans are forgeting that. With that being said, I think they have a chance at the playoffs. Their receiving corp is not bad, everyone is going nuts about adding talent, but they have good players. I think since the NFC is fairly weak they have a chance but it depends if the offensive line continues to improve.

First, the Lions will NOT win more than 5 games this season. They have a severe QB problem, and Kitna will not be there in 1-2 years. NFC North can easily be won by the Bears, with the Packers or Vikings in a close 2nd. The team that finishes second in the NFC North will get the 2nd wild card, while the runner up in the NFC East or NFC South getting the 1st one.

Honestly, the Packers don't have a prayer of making the playoffs. In their division alone there are 2 (possibly 3) teams that are better than them. The front office has basically wasted the latter part of what will undoubtedly be known as one of the greatest QB careers of all time. Sorry, not this year for the pack

I find it hard to believe that they'll make the play-offs. For some reason the Packers refuse to get him decent recievers. Brett Favre has made recievers great but when they leave Green Bay, they do hardly anything. Had he been given the chance to play with Moss, I would give a biased answer. However, the defensive line is weak, the offensive line is weak, recievers are average, at best, and the runningbacks are below average. I see greatness left in his tank. But the supporting cast is below average. I hope they can proove me wrong.

This is a trick question, right? I don't see a washed up old man taking a piece of crap team to the platoffs. I think you should reverse the td to int ratio.
