Damn, girl...how old is that thing!...lol I used to have a truck like that. I had to replace the steering colom, one time, and The swith was no good, and I hooked up a toggle. Good thing it was ugly, cause it was easy to steal!!

It happened to me once with an old car. For f*cks sake don't try to be smart and drive it without the keys in the ignition, you may get a problem when you come to a bend as the steering lock will still work.

No. Most older cars and some newer cars had this feature by design and some others will do it once there has been some wear and tear on the ignition switch.
I have a 1985 Subura that I have restored that does this. I didnt change the ignition switch because I like the fact that it does this.

Go to the dealer where they can cut a new key with the factory code cutter that does not copy your worn out key. When a key gets old and rounded off it will pull out as you mentioned. I don't mind the key coming out while running. In the winter you can start the car remove the key and lock the car to warm it up.

I have had the keyhole wear in such a way that I could remove the key and the car keep running, even though it was engineered to prevent that. No intentional modification was done. It's just natural wear, sometimes, that does this.

Used to have one of those; ignition lock was so worn that once you started it, you could take the keys out.

i can do that with our truck. as long as you dont turn the ignition all the way back it doesnt lock itself..so you can drive it without a a key as long as you keep the ignition a certain way..confusing i know haha.

I've heard of it before, but not for a long time. There were some Chevrolets that you could do that with. But that is certainly a new one on me, at least recently. Have a good one !
