From spending 5 minutes on Yahoo Answers, there's no shortage of angry comments from conservatives, attacking everything "liberal", whatever that means.

Another pattern is that people arguing for a conservative point of view trend toward hurling insults and personal attacks rather than explaining themselves, or supporting their arguments with facts.

Are conservatives hateful or ignorant by nature, or do hateful and ignorant people tend to be conservatives?

Best answer to the most articulate and insightful.

Haters, by all means, submit an answer!

Hey Ross! I've been drawn in to the talk radio maelstorm in the last few years. I suppose it's my rebellion against rap music(grin). I would like to consider myself an open minded conservative (willing to consider other relevant points of view), but I NEVER want to be lumped in to the Rush Limbaugh group (that just makes my teeth hurt). Why does the American populace willingly listen to an
Arrogant ("half my brain tied behind my back, just to make it fair", is said daily on his talk radio show),
Stuttering (listen for 5 minutes, it will drive you nuts too),
Deaf (yes he has atrocious hearing, and hearing aids...perfect for someone in radio),
Overweight (how about espousing and reflecting what the nation needs to strive for)
Smoking (yes, he DID quit, but he also DID smoke, so how does that reflect on his ability to make good choices and decision making)
Addictive (need we mention Percodan-gate, with his prescrition pain killer rehab?)
THIS is what I believe???? I think NOT.

I'm more along the lines of Shawn Hannity and Glenn Beck. They have a more common sense approach and I love someone who can invoke pragmatic reason. There are as many flavors of conservatism as there are liberalism.

Do I think "carbon footprinting" is the most ridiculous thing in the world? Absolutely. Do something about the sulfur dioxide emissions which are PROVEN to cause acid rain and deforestation instead.
Don't spend money with foreign governments who allow reprehensible acts to occur inside their borders. That's the "gold rule", as in He who has the gold, makes the rules. Many nations do not respond to the carrot, but it's hard not to want to help (oil for food program).

Part of me is xenophobic and wants charity to begin at home. When congress says, IN 90 DAYS HOMELESSNESS WILL BE UNACCEPTABLE (an example), then in those next 90 days, a solution will be found. Action follows intention, and that is what is missing in this country. No one that I have seen lately is willing to state an intention that requires a set of actions to forward this country in a positive way. Who cares about a non-binding resolution in the House? Why are taxpayers only being given the choices of "bad and worse" candidates, when election time comes around. I'm looking for grass-roots people to take this country where it needs to go.
Is amnesty for 20 million immigrants my idea of smart? Heck no! Make all of them DO the work that legal immigrants did to get here. That's FAIR.
Am I pleased that our troops are still deployed? NO! But more powerful and intellectual people than me had to realize that it would take a vast amount of time to train up a people so repressed, uneducated and culturally different, to work for and care for themselves. Once started, leaving a job like that half done would be doing the people of Iraq a gross disservice, and leaving them open to being malleable to potentially further harmful leaders.
So me conservative? Maybe? Hateful? Not really. Frustrated? Heck yes!!!

...still looking for answers to life's persistent questions... Thanks Ross

This would depend on what you put into label of conservative. Taking a five minute view to consider a trend to putting labeling all conservatives being hateful or haters that are ignorant by nature shows a bias on your part.

Passionate statements and answers people make are generally based on how they were raised and their own personal experiences in life. Many use hatreds of others to create a desired outcome for particular situations (spinning it to fit). By using deceptive practices to inflame and conjure emotions to a level of hate or heated debate. Something like flickering a rubber bait hook in front of a hungry fish at sunset. People bite and the spin masters gain an audience.

I believe we each have an obligation to each other to help each other with understanding and learning in what the causes and remedies against true hatred are. We are our brothers keepers.

Certain persons would also call me a neo con conservative for believing in Jesus as my saviour. Some treat me with hatred for my beliefs. When it is clear you could not simply get to know who I am and what is in my heart in only five minutes.

I do have to admit though I have hatred for certain things in the world. Corruption that has been allowed to run rampant in our country has brought it to a very dangerous level. So we are hated by others even though the majority of us simply wish to live in peace. Greed has consumed and the anger runs wild through the nation as people try to survive and keep their goodies like fancy houses and cars. Many who have previously sold out or given in by thinking they are secure in their jobs and they allowed the corruption to take over. By not being their brothers keepers they have invited the wolves in the door.

I grew up believing as an American I would have freedom, justice and be treated equally as a human being. This has not been the case in all instances. Yet I would not trade my country for another just because of a few ignorant or greedy people. I would hope that not everyone would attempt to assess the whole situation in a few minutes though by labeling all conservatives hateful nad ignorant by nature.
Yours truly,

To start, I'm a Conservative. I don't consider myself ignorant nor do I consider myself to be hateful.

Just because I don't agree with everything a *Liberal* has to say, I'm a hater?

My definition:
*liberal*

Anyone who supports...

Abortion
Legalizing drugs
Drugging hyper children
Killing old, or otherwise, disabled people
Under funding our troops
and Amnesty in any form.

I don't completely agree with the war in Iraq, but I don't think under funding our troops is a good idea either. Liberals say it will get them home, but if they don't have the equipment they need, they may not be coming home alive. Sadly.

I hope in the future you can be more open minded about the whole partisan bull, and realize that we are not all going to agree on ANYTHING...much less EVERYTHING... but not all of us are hateful idiots, just like I'm sure not all of you liberals are.

Why did Mr. Mylow cross the road . ? Because his johnson was stuck in a chicken .

Since you obviously lump all conservatives into some kind of category in which hate is the result of the response of the conservative answerer ,I find it possible that you yourself have dug in and taken a position in which you feel superior to most conservatives .

I find this Ignorant and by now I am sure others have informed you of the same thing .

Have a nice day and grow up .

This is not soley the domain of conservatives... all points of view have their hate mongers. It speaks to another issue of why so many people are so down right uncivil (especially online). I sure a big part of the uncivility is the anonymous nature of online conversations. It is so refreshing to see a civil, thoughtful discussion on a topic. It takes a great deal of maturity to maintain a calm focused discussion.

The divide and conquer campaign seems to be working. What alot of people don't realize is the fact that the genocidal NDAA bill that has just been passed is a bi-partisan bill!!! Senate passed it with a vote of 93-7!! Ron Paul 2012!! He does not support FEMA camps for millions of Americans!!

Wow. Do you read much? Both liberals and conservatives post comments like you are referring to. Do you somehow think that liberals don't post anything like that, not exactly angels if you know what I mean. It seems to me that the people that post these, from both sides, are not capable of articulating their points of view and reasoning in a manner to make us think and possibly change our point of view, or at least consider theirs. Saying one side does it and the other doesn't is ridiculous though.

You noticed that, too? I thought I was the only one!!! Thank you now I know I'm not as crazy as the "conservatives" would like me to think I am, but it does seem to go both ways in here.

I try my best not to put labels on people, but it does anger me with all the name calling. If a person can't make a constructive statement regarding their position then please please don't try to answer a question.

Also, have you noticed how when some people ask questions they do it as a put down or insinuate that if you are not thinking the way they are then you are wrong. I wish there was more openmindedness in here. Shoot, why waste five points trying to put someone down.

Take some time to try to convince me why your position is right, putting me down sure isn't going to convert me, I am open to all opinions and if yours is valid I will consider it.

That arguement applies equally well to some posters from the liberal side. Personally, I think such posters are suffering from an inferiority complex or are teenagers who still cannot control their emotions.
